Contents: >>>22.1 Sinaia financial support requests format >>>22.2 MTNet mailing list IMPORTANT DEADLINES:.. APRIL 15 1998: SINAIA ABSTRACT DEADLINE SINAIA FINANCIAL SUPPORT REQUEST DEADLINE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>22.1 Sinaia financial support requests format ================================================ I have been receiving a lot of financial support requests with the information embedded in attachments in formats I cannot translate. Also, some of the requests did not follow the information listing given below, and quite a few are incomplete. Please remember when sending emails that not everybody is using whatever word processor you are using, and that attachments get handled poorly by different email servers. I have been returning those emails I cannot read back to their respective authors asking for the information to be resent. If your information was either sent as an attachment, or you did not follow the following listing, or your information was incomplete, then please resend your support request email to me as soon as possible. I intend to go through all requests on April 16th and send out acknowledgements, hopefully before the weekend but likely by April 21st. If you have sent an email financial support request to me and do not receive an acknowledgement by APRIL 22nd, please let me know. Once we have agreed to pay some of your expenses, my plan is to give you a cheque, in U.S. dollars drawn on a Canadian bank, at the Sinaia workshop. Please let me know if this mechanism would be a problem for you. --------cut here and return below with answers to Alan Jones-------------------- Information Required -------------------- A request for support should include the following information:- 1. So I am repeating it here, and adding some points. An automatic mailing list is being prepared for MTNet users. This is to save me the work of continually updating your email addresses (on average over twenty changes per week). Due to the problems with "spamming", I want to protect this mailing list from possible "spammers". Accordingly, I will authorize every name that goes onto the list, and only those on the list will be able to send an email to the list (mtnet@cg.nrcan.gc.ca). To subscribe to the MTNet mailing list, send an email to: majordomo@cg.nrcan.gc.ca with the following in the body subscribe mtnet Note that for this to work you must have a valid "Reply-To" address in your email. Invalid reply addresses will not be added to the list. If you are subscribing from a different Reply-To address than the one you want on the list, then use... subscribe mtnet youremail@domain.xxx (replacing "youremail@domain.xxx" with the email address you want). To unsubsribe, send an email with the message unsubscribe mtnet Again, unsubscribing from a different email address is done through... unsubscribe mtnet youremail@domain.xxx If you change your email address, you have to unsubscribe your old address and subscribe your new one... unsubscribe mtnet oldemail@domain.xxx subscribe mtnet newemail@domain.xxx I will not add all current email addresses to the list, but ask that you do this yourself. This way I will know that the list is current, and that all people on it really want to receive mailings. Once you have subscribed to the list, you can send a message to all users by emailing it to mtnet@cg.nrcan.gc.ca Remember to send messages in PLAIN 7-bit ASCII!!!! Do NOT send attachments of any form. Do not use special characters. I will allow this feature to be unmoderated (i.e., I will not check whether the message going out is one that many will want to see) until such time as this is abused. So please do not send out messages to this list except when you are sure that many of your colleagues will want to know what you have to say. If you use this to send a general message, make sure that you send the text in plain ASCII. Do NOT send a file directly from programs such as Word or WordPerfect. Many of us either do not have the appropriate word processing software or have problems decoding the attachments. If I receive complaints about abuse, I will remove posting priviledges from the abuser. If the complains reach crescendo proportions, I will have no option but to reluctantly moderate this list. To find out who is on the list, you can send to majordomo@cg.nrcan.gc.ca the following command... who mtnet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alan G Jones Ottawa, 14 April, 1998 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
